Then
Jeremiah came from Tophet, where the Lord had sent him to prophesy; and he
stood in the court of the Lord’s house and said to all the people, “Thus says
the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel: ‘Behold, I will bring on this city and on
all her towns all the doom that I have pronounced against it, because they have
stiffened their necks that they might not hear My words.’ ”
Now
Pashhur the son of Immer, the priest who was also chief governor in the house
of the Lord, heard that Jeremiah prophesied these things. Then Pashhur struck
Jeremiah the prophet, and put him in the stocks that were in the high gate of
Benjamin, which was by the house of the Lord.
But
His word was in my heart like a burning fire Shut up in my bones; I was weary
of holding it back, And I could not.
But
the Lord is with me as a mighty, awesome One. Therefore my persecutors will
stumble, and will not prevail.
Jeremiah faced persecution
because of the message the Lord had given. In this particular instance one of
the false prophets misleading the people of God and helping them continue to
turn away from God imprisons him after he delivered the Lords message. As you
have read Jeremiah is sometimes disheartened and depressed. But he reminds
himself of who he is representing.
We also face disappointment and
rejection, let us remind ourselves as well of who we belong and praise Him.
Our redeemer lives and His
grace is sufficient for all our needs.
There is nothing better than
knowing you are not alone, not just that though, knowing that you have a Father
in heaven you can call on and He is willing to help you. Let us get to know who
we belong to and know who we are because of who He is.
