Do
you not know that in a race all the runners run, but only one receives the
prize? So run that you may obtain it. Every athlete exercises self-control in
all things. They do it to receive a perishable wreath, but we, an imperishable.
So I do not run aimlessly; I do not box as one beating the air. But I
discipline my body and keep it under control, lest after preaching to others I
myself should be disqualified.
I
have become all things to all people, that by all means I might save some. I do
it all for the sake of the gospel, that I may share with them in its blessings.
The first part of this chapter
is dedicated to Paul defending needing assistance from his fellow brothers and
sisters in Christ.
Lifting one another up, caring
and looking out for one another is part of our journey as we carry the gospel
to those around us. We carry to one another as well. Living a gospel centered
life is not a testimony to the unbeliever only but to our fellow brothers and
sisters.
We are called to a life surrendered to the gospel. A life dedicated to sharing the gospel and sharing in the blessing and joy of a life surrendered to Jesus our Lord.
