What do they say
In 2017 my gran who is 89 years old has been hospitalised 3 times. Hospitals have a way of making you feel useless, they take your loved one away, closet themselves in no access zones and all you are left with is the waiting and waiting and waiting ….
In waiting I tend to talk to whoever is also waiting. One of the ladies I started chatting with happened to also like cricket and so we started discussing sports in South Africa. She told me that her sons have chosen to play cricket and rugby as it not predominantly a white sport in her area therefore she feels her sons will a chance. (Unfortunately in South Africa we tend to classify by race, tribe, etc. It is truly an unfortunate legacy of our history as often generation defines our actions and tendencies more than race).
I was surprised by her comment as where I come from we generally believe the opposite. I asked her where she comes from only to find she live 239 Km from where I come from.
This got me thinking, what are we known for as the children of the living God. What do they say about 239 Km, 100 Km, 50 Km, 5 Km, a 100 metres away. What are neighbours whether they are believers or not saying about us. In a nutshell how have we represented the Saviour to whom we owe all.
I realise prior experience, perceived actions, general opinions, and media will always play a role on how people respond to a Christ follower. But I do believe our own actions in love, consistency in faith, and generosity in heart and practically can sway those around us be it 239,100,50,5Km, or even less than 100 metres away.
